What a world we are living in!
We haven't seen nothin yet!
Many of us do not seem to recognize in what kind of world we are living. We count every technological inventions for granted and we think that they had always been there not remembering that all this technology explosion started happening maybe some 100 years back which is short period of time. Even in our time most of us have seen these changes ourselves but have forgotten how we used to live before. Do you remember that there were no satellite TV’s with 100s of channels before? Everybody had only one option of watching TV channels. Those channels were aired from the station and we had no option but to watch those channels in their time frame. There was no internet, no DVD and there were no cell phones.
Being a tech guy, I really wonder at the changes from time to time. And this time we are living in now have no comparison. Now anyone can watch any movie he wants anytime and any place. Now we can make a call to anyone in the face of the earth with a cell phone or send message instantly. When we see all the technological growths in every aspect from transportation to communication and every home appliances, it is extremely incredible. We surely are in the technology and information superhighway.
Not long ago I was taking electronics course and we were learning about television. That only course takes a some months then we have only touched the surface. Even that basic idea of how a TV works and how that idea is put to realization with the combination of those electrical components, if you take that course you will think who in the world have thought that? Some people say it is easy but to think as such from scratch is no easy. Once some 27yrs ago I “discovered” that a picture can easily be projected on a screen or a wall with just a torch and an incandescent lamp full of water. I put torch and a caramels cover (letters on it) and lighted through it to a wall. The letters on the caramels cover could not be seen on the wall and I happen to put the lamp full of water (which acts as a lens) in front of the cover. Then WOW! I saw the letters on the wall clearly. This was one of my greatest discoveries and I advanced it to make slide projector. I added real lens and real electrical light and awed my parents & friends.
Then I thought why don’t I try making moving picture projector? Being a choir in catholic I had access for reels of films (8mm) and started with that project. I figured it out how it works but to implement a working mechanics took the hell out of me. It took me nearly 2yrs to make that machine work. Long story short finally I did it and awed families and friends even more than before. I was showing them soundless movies in our verandas wall! I operated the machine with my hands. As I am writing this I wanted to cry because it refreshed those days memories. Once I remember I saw in Aljazeera special report some guys in INDIA showing movies carrying their hand operated projector from place to place.
Well I think I missed my point but what I wanted to show is that it is never easy to make things from scratch. So we should give honor those guys that invent machines first and also those that advanced it. Now we can’t think life without these inventions like cars television cellphones …. This happened due to the relentless effort of these thinkers. And we should always keep in mind and not forget that some guys made that happen by devoting themselves to such ideas.
